We continue our month long look at Coming Up Roses by Anna Kyle from the Rough Edges anthology to give you a behind the scenes peek.
As you’d expect from a paranormal romance writer, this story contains shifters, a second chance at love, and an ornery donkey. To get to know a little be more about the story and Anna, here are some links to some past fun stuff we’ve posted.
INTERVIEW WITH ANNA KYLE ABOUT COMING UP ROSES
I love the complexity of shapeshifters being both predator and human. As a writer I get to explore how that affects their view of the world and, of course, their relationships.
WHAT WAS ANNA’S FAVOURITE ROUGH EDGES STORY?
I really enjoyed Jump Without Looking by TJ. I loved the horses, of course, and I loved the grittiness of both characters. The heroine has a tough exterior (a fantastic, f-bomb filled, and well-deserved rant was one of my fav scenes) covering a deep wound, yet she’s willing to reveal her pain to the right cowboy.
WHY DOES ANNA LIKE WRITING COWBOYS/GIRLS?
I adore reading cowboy romances and getting to write my first one for Rough Edges was happy-dance time. There’s something about a cowboy’s honor and sweat and dust and abs and stubble and oh my YUM. Yeah, cowboys are just inherently sexy and that appeals to me on all kinds of levels. My character (rancher Finn) is determined to win his woman back, and it isn’t long before Rose is wondering if she dares risk a second chance. Horses, cowboys, romance, love, and an angry donkey. Sigh. Perfect.
READ AN EXCERPT FROM COMING UP ROSES
Rose sat cross-legged in a corner of Tank’s new stall. The donkey’s eyes remained on Finn, who leaned on the opened half-door.
“What’s his problem, anyway?”
“He just started attacking everyone around him but there was nothing wrong with him. Nothing medical, I mean. Your six hundred bucks covered all that testing.”

WHAT’S ANNA’S FAVOURITE SUMMER READ?
My favorite summer read is a meaty, multi-book epic story. In different summers, I devoured Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, Hobbs’ Fitz and the Fool series, and Larsson’s Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series. This summer will be less…hmm, gruesome and intense. Less beheadings, more love please. I want fun, funny, romance/adventures so I plan on re-reading the Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series and finishing up Wendy Sparrow’s Servants of Fate series and Randi Perrin’s Earthbound Angels series. Whoohoo!!
